I saw a notification about something about the Ten Commandments being posted in Louisiana public schools, and I was transported back to a sweaty night in a Baptist school gym. Notes to follow the comic. Mild CW about shame , sexuality, and religious schools, but nothing too intense.
Notes
I was originally going to do a 12 page comic about weird stuff from this school, but I didn’t want to go back and stay there too long.
I started thinking about the Pepsi bottles and what I was going to do with this comic. Then I went to the Chazen Museum of Art, and saw Magritte’s Woman Bottle and Inspiration (L’inspiration). I was quite taken by how different I felt looking at Magritte’s bottles versus the image of a middle-schooler drowning in a pepsi bottle of shame. Yay art!
I did this comic in an afternoon. It’s sloppy and rough around the edges, but I wanted to just get it done!
I’m working on a 12 page comic about movies with my friend Lan. He wrote it, I’m drawing it. It’ll probably take us until the end of the summer to finish, but I’m stoked.
I sold my first comic ever! It was about how much backpacking sucks.
I got 2 tattoos! They are healing and I love them and they were both flash designed by Carson Ellis, one of my favorite illustrators.
I finished the Year Long Program through the Sequential Artists’ Workshop. This time last year I had never drawn a story before. They’re awesome over there.
Stay cool, and I still love you even if you do like Pepsi.
