I noticed a theme developing in the next batch of movies for the horror log. They were vacations/dinners gone wrong. This wasn’t by design, but maybe since Brian was gone for the last week I wanted to go on a little trip on my own in the movies.
Note that my drawings will focus on feelings or impressions, but never plot spoilers, because that’s no fun.
I absolutely relished sitting uncomfortably in the anxieties and fears these movies tapped into. The Coffee Table was extraordinary at doing this, and at the same time I’d recommend it to nobody I know because they’ll have a bad time. If that sounds like a good time, you know who you are! On the flip side, I’d recommend Troll 2 to everybody ever. Just be aware there are no actual trolls in it, but who cares!?! It is described as the worst movie ever made, but it has the most heart of any movie ever made, and it’s good because of that. That is inspiring as hell.
I started these horror drawings to get myself going again, to fight against that feeling to make something GOOD or nothing at all. Why not just go forward with the gusto of Troll 2? So in the last couple weeks I’ve emptied an entire ink cartridge and I’m connecting with friends over dinner about my Texas Chainsaw Massacre doodle (haha, another GREAT f*ed up dinner movie), and that’s GOOD enough for me.
For the next batch I want to do some requests I got, peppered in with movies from “The Chart”, a scratch-off poster of 100 movies we’ve been working on for the last few years. Anything in red is game - we randomly choose the next movie with a die.
If you’ve got a movie you want to share, let me know (I’ll take palate cleansers, too - I had to watch a heartwarming tale about a dog and a robot that became friends after this batch!).
To be continued…
